Jank is partnering with Total Playtime

As part of our launch, Jank is partnering with the fine podcast Total Playtime, which not-at-all-coincidentally is hosted by Jonty and Brendy along with fellow veterans Alice Bell and Nate Crowley. It has been running for a little over a year and publishes free episodes every two weeks, or monthly for those who back it on Patreon

The free version of Total Playtime is available here, and every two weeks it offers:

  • Discussion of the latest PC gaming news
  • Judgements on the games we’re playing
  • Recommendations for new games
  • Updates on Alice’s dog and Nate’s cats
  • A recommendation every week of something that is not a videogame, because true satisfaction can only be achieved from a balanced cultural diet.

As part of the partnership, paying subscribers of Jank will get access to the paid tier of Total Playtime, starting from this Thursday’s episode. That means you get an exclusive members-only episode every two weeks, mostly about PC gaming, although the backing of our Patrons has permitted it to wander to some more esoteric places. Recent episodes have included:

  • Ranking game awards shows, because they covered the games already
  • Hypothetical product partnerships between major videogame franchises and businesses in Walsall, West Midlands
  • Warhammer explained by Nate, who has written a number of Black Library novels and knows too many characters by name
  • Regular episodes hosted by Games Satan, in which we endeavour to defeat his tricks and save videogames
  • Text Adventure, our videogame book club, in which we and a guest read a book based on a videogame and try really hard to like it
  • Discussions and Q&A with our backers

In return, existing Total Playtime backers get access to the paid tier of Jank including access to the Jank Discord server, finally giving a dedicated space to compare notes on what happens when you try one of Nate’s recipe suggestions.

What does this mean? If you back Jank you will get access to the paid tier of Total Playtime episodes for the next three months (and perhaps beyond, we’ll see how it goes), which will be accessible on through your Jank membership. You will find those posts on this site, starting this Thursday.

Will there be a dedicated Jank podcast? Yes, that will launch in the coming months. Total Playtime will tide you over during this time.

What if I already back Total Playtime on Patreon? Please continue to do that, and you will get access to Jank as part of that membership for the next three months (and perhaps beyond, we’ll see how it goes). We will send you an email to the address you used when you backed the podcast. You will also gain access to the Jank Discord, and its dedicated Total Playtime channel.

Can I transfer my Total Playtime membership to Jank? Not right now. If this partnership works out then we’ll look at extending it, but for now Jank and Total Playtime are fellow travellers through the harsh and forbidding media landscape.
