What you could play this weekend

And what we are playing
A cute bear surrounded by floating objects, everything made out of wood.

Dare I spend a huge chunk of money on Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave? I haven't loved an entry in the turn-based tactics series since Awakening, and there's a chance I'd be buying something a hundred hours-long that I only end up playing for six. Plus, I have Star Wars: Zero Company right here, waiting, unplayed, if I want some turn-based shenanigans.

And yet, it looks new and shiny. Below you'll find three other new and shiny things you could spend money on, but tell us what you're actually playing in the comments. And what I should do about Fire Emblem.

Trails In The Sky 2nd Chapter

An anime lady with a staff looks at a gleaming city across some water.

The next entry in Nihon Falcom's ongoing remake project for their classic JRPG series. Trails games are long and numerous, with airships, melodrama, and both turn-based and real-time hack-and-slash combat. I played a couple of hours of the previous game in the series and It Was Not For Me, but if you're more tolerant of cumbersome tutorialisation and adoptive sibling romance then I hear there's a great world and story to explore and hundreds of hours of games to do it in.

Woodo

A 3D diorama of a little house, surrounded by plants and animals. Sickeningly adorable.

A series of lightly animated 3D dioramas to which you bring colour by dragging-and-dropping pieces into place like a jigsaw. I've watched a couple of streamers play this and it looks cute, delightful, relaxing, and I have immediately installed it in preparation for the next time I want to dissociate or second screen some TV.

Endless Legend 2

A 4X fantasy field and forest, with a lot of UI clinging to the sides of the screen.

Amplitude's 4X fantasy strategy game has left Early Access. Is it a bad sign that I couldn't remember if this game was out already? Is it worrying that I can't tell you, despite having seen trailers for it, what it does differently than its predecessor? Is it worse that I still can't tell you even after skimming the Steam page? What I can tell you is that it's a fantasy 4X with asymmetric factions and a "reactive" world and nice art and that Amplitude are normally good for it.

What we're playing

Graham: I've got a bunch of new games lined up and waiting, but I can't stop booting up War Dogs for late night sorties. I love a multiplayer game where I can contribute without needing real skill, and where I can feel good about surviving for twenty minutes, even if I was just hiding in a bush that entire time.

Brendan: I may Wardog or I may not, dog. It would be interesting to play it properly and not as a rifle scrounging rube. I also have a mysterious game to review and it is more my sort of war. Keep your eyes on the skies!

Jonty: Now I am free from budget tyranny with $125k to my name, I am going to return to Wardogs and see if I earn faster when properly armed. When that doesn't work I'll go back to First Light because I got tantalisingly close to finishing it and a bit of double-oh smarm would be a decent contrast.

That's what we're playing, but what about you? Tell us in the internet's best and only comment section.
