What you could play this weekend
By happenstance, my parenting schedule is unusually light this weekend. Which means only one thing: time for all the viruses which constantly and relentlessly assault my body to overwhelm my momentarily relaxed immune system and render me useless for three whole days. The only question now is whether I'll be able to see the Steam Deck screen from my sick bed.
Read what we might play, then tell us what you paragons of good health will play down in the comments below.
Car Park Capital

This looks like a SimCity 2000-era citybuilder, but your goal here isn't to build an American municipal paradise. It's to introduce these innocent peeps to "car commuting", and thus create the need for car parks. Actually, that doesn't sound too dissimilar to SimCity or any real American municipal paradise, because there's a satirical edge to your Car Park Capital's demand that you bulldoze trees and houses to make way for more asphalt. It's in Early Access for now.
Dressmaker

Released a few weeks ago, but I overlooked Dressmaker at the time because it looked outwardly like any other shop simulator. Several friends have since made it clear to me that this is set apart by exactly how much creative freedom you have over the dresses you can design and craft, including fabric choices, shapes, stitching and patterns. I like this growing subgenre of management games with genuine creative output at the end of them. See also: Offbeat.
Batomon Showdown

Every week there's a new autobattler with asynchronous multiplayer, normally involving some sort of abstracted card-based battlefield. Batomon is immediately different for being about creature-collecting a squad of cute Pokémon style monsters over the course of a run, but otherwise it's still about finding broken builds through your levelling and team combinations.
What we're playing
Graham: I've spent the past week pumping hours into New Star GP, so much so that I've barely made a dent in Star Wars Galactic Racer, a similar racing game with much higher production values. I'll be behind the wheel of one or t'other this weekend.
Brendan: I have just finished weeks of house hunting by signing for a new rental so now I have to move all our stuff. I am unlikely to find even an hour to switch on my PC. But if I do, I'm going for a walk around the cyberpunk city of Nivalis Nights where I'll look for a new apartment to rent oh fuck.
Jonty: I played Arc Raiders for the first time in months and had a thoroughly enjoyable time, while also hitting the level of Zen mastery/fuck-this exasperation to purge my inventory of all the valuable but unused weapon parts. I am going to return in my newly unburdened state, until I get wiped out by a human player and quit in a strop.
